Because CCA is not a church-based social service agency, our clients and staff represent a
wide variety of viewpoints and traditions regarding religion and spirituality. CCA's Pastoral Care program
meets clients wherever they are at, which may have little or nothing to do with religion
or spiritual practice, but has everything to do with genuine caring.
The Pastoral Care program is an important part of the extraordinarily compassionate
and supportive environment at CCA, where the professional experiences of staff, and the
wisdom of both staff and clients, offer a rich and unique learning opportunity for all.
The existence of CCA reflects the sad fact that, after nearly
a generation, the HIV epidemic is still very much in evidence both here and, especially,
worldwide. In addition to the medical issues, HIV/AIDS also illuminates all the other social
ills that human beings manifest— racism, sexism, heterosexism, homophobia, discrimination, and
the devastating effects of poverty. The larger spiritual issues implicit in these truths
are explored through the Pastoral Care program of CCA.
"Working at CCA is like being surrounded by a warm and loving family. The work
that CCA does is essential, and being in this kind of work environment makes
administering to the HIV/AIDS population so much easier."
-Faith Sullivan, former Pastoral Care Intern
Harvard Divinity School, Class of 2005
